I climb
The Mountain.
I climb
Towards the Peak.
I slip
I fall
I struggle
With the Rope.
A quick
And painful
Stop.
I climb
The Mountain.
I climb
Towards the Peak.
Farther away,
I don’t quit.
The Peak can be reached.
I can climb
The Mountain.
I can climb
Towards the Peak.

I Walk in Silence
I walk in silence.
A storm is coming,
A chill wind bites at my soul,
Fear and despair follow me.
A light in the distance,
I cease to care.
The light finds me,
I run away.
Joy soon overcomes.
I fly into the sky.
The joy of flight.
The cool air giving me peace.
The joy is short,
Lightning cracks in the sky.
Down I fall.
Down into the storm.
I walk in silence.
Fear and despair follow me.
A light in the distance.
I will fly again.

The perils of man
All die with man
Why must we strive for this?
Peace
Love
The everlasting virtues
Man doesn’t want this
Why can’t we have this?
The Rope of Life
The rope of life,
I climb it with my life.
My rope is coming unraveled.
I cry for help.
Where are my friends?
They are around.
They help me strengthen my rope.
Or, unintentionally,
They loosen my rope more.
My rope is unwinding.
Where is my family?
They are near.
They try to help.
But they are blind to the problem.
My rope is unwinding.
Where is God?
He is on my rope.
He is strengthening my rope.
I must let him help.
My cries are heard.
I need only to accept.
(Revised)
I climb a rope,
The Rope of Life.
The Rope is unraveling,
I cry for help.
Where are my friends?
The are all around.
The try to help me strengthen my Rope,
Or, unintentionally,
They unravel a few more strands.
The Rope is unraveling,
I cry for help.
Where is my family?
They are near,
They try to help.
But they are blind to the real problem.
The Rope is unraveling,
I cry for help.
Where is God?
He is with me.
He tries to strengthen the Rope,
When I am not in the way.
The Rope is unraveling,
I cry for help.
Where is my help?
My help is all around.
I need only to accept.
As I Sit and Watch the World Go By
As I sit and watch the world go by,
I sit and wonder, How do I get by?
Sometimes I find it fatiguing,
Trying to give my life more meaning.
What can I do?
There seems nothing to do.
As I sit and watch the world go by,
I see the children go running by.
I wish life could stay that carefree,
But it seems that will never be.
What can I do?
There seems nothing to do.
As I sit and watch the world go by,
I see the lovers strolling happily by.
Their lives are their only care,
And everything else is left up in the air.
What can I do?
There seems nothing to do.
As I sit and watch the world go by,
I see the workers come rushing by.
They work for a living,
Their living gives life meaning.
What can I do?
There seems nothing to do.
As I sit and watch the world go by,
I see the elderly telling stories of days gone by.
Their past is their life,
Their life is fulfilled.
What can I do?
There seems a lot to do.
Peace (1992)
I look into the sky
And watch the clouds
Come rolling by.
The air is filled with sounds
My soul is at peace.
I watch and see
The sky become black
The chill bites at me
Fear crawls up my back
I hold onto my peace.
The wind blows around me
Dry leaves hit my face
I look but I can’t see
Where to find a safe place.
Fear destroys my peace.
A ray of light.
Hope far away.
I strive with all my might
To reach the ray
For a renewed peace.
The light grows dim,
I run with care.
My chances are slim,
My soul is filled with despair.
I have no peace.
Falling
Falling
Falling
Falling
The ground is coming quickly.
Am I afraid?
No.
It is right to die.
Or is it?
No,
It is not right to die.
What have I done?
Nothing in life was bad enough for this.
Forgive me, Lord,
I did not know what I was doing.
The end is near.
The ground is coming fast.
It is over and done.
I am dead
And I was wrong.
Poetry 1989 – 1990: The City Below, The Maze of Life
In my Sophomore Year of High School I had an English teacher, Ms. Cartwright, who changed my attitude towards creative writing. Through the way that she taught creative writing, I developed an enjoyment of writing, not only poetry, but stories as well. These poems were written in my Sophomore and/or Junior years in High School. These weren’t done as class projects, but, for the first time, done because I enjoyed it.
The City Below
All was quiet
in the city below.
All were listening
to a siren
sounding through the still air
for all to hear.
One common thought
ran through everyone’s mind.
“Someone pressed the button!
We’re all dead!”
Off in the distance
A baby’s crying could be heard.
Suddenly,
the city was in chaos.
Everyone searching
for a place to hide.
A new thought
came into everyone’s mind.
“Find safety.
I must live.
I don’t care what the costs.”
Windows shattered,
Alarms sounded,
Gun shots echoed,
and dying screams
filled the streets
which were silent before.
Several streaks showed the paths
the missiles took
as they raced toward their target.
There was a deafening roar,
a blinding flash of light,
then nothing.
There was silence once more.
The Maze of Life
Life is like a Maze,
With one Entrance,
And one Exit.
Many Paths branch from the Entrance,
But only one leads to the Exit.
When one reaches a Dead End,
He turns around,
Correcting his Errors.
Some people refuse to change their Mistakes,
And try to cross the Line.
This does not work,
So They do anything to make it work,
Even Kill.
Others who reach this Dead End give up.
These People often wonder
Why their Life is in the Gutter.
Still others arrive at the Dead End
And refuse to accept it.
These People tend to brush off their Mistakes
As if they were only irritating Flies.
It takes these People some Time
To accept their Mistakes,
Then they either
Cross the Lines,
Give up,
Or turn around.
Only one man left the Maze of Life,
Never once entering a Dead End.
That man was crucified on the Cross
Two-thousand years ago.
Ninth Grade Poetry – The Accident, The City and the Country
The Accident
the Darkness fell upon me,
like a night withOut light.
eveN after death,
i saw The accident.
i was dead in my car,
glass cutting Deep into my skin.
anotheR car smashed into mine.
the polIce were there
questioNing the driver of the other car.
the officer checKed a series of tests,
and found the man was drunk.
A moment later the ambulance arrived,
aNd took my body from the car.
the man from the car was arresteD
and later taken to jail.
as i lookeD down on the scene
i wondeRed why anyone would drink
and then drIve a car.
that only means death to the Victims
of thE drunken driver.
i soon left the scene
leaving the deadly earth behind.
The City and the Country
The sun shone down on the earth below.
All the people running around the city
Like ants in an ant farm.
The cars were stopped in the streets
The drivers honking their horns
And yelling at one another.
One car left the jammed city of New York,
And entered the peacefulness of the country.
Here, the people were not crowded together,
As they were in New York.
There was a friendly type of nature here.
No horns were heard outside,
No people yelling at each other.
It was sort of a calmness
That people living in cities would not know.
It was so peaceful here,
Even the sounds of the animals were heard.
If it were not for the cars,
And the telephone and electricity wireing,
The country would be,
I believe,
An exact replica of our past.
The city is like the earth now
With wars and disputes everywhere.
The country is like peace,
Disputes not growing but quickly ending.
If only the peacefulness
And the calmness of the country
Was world wide,
We would not have to worry about wars,
As well as other deadly actions.
I hope in the future,
Peace is gained,
And love made world-wide.

ODE TO LIFE
This is an ode to Life, A life that can’t go on Without the help of the One who’s Life it is. Without Life, the earth would die. The seas will dry up and the sky Will turn to nothing but a vacuum. The plants and the animals will also vanish without a trace. Oh, Life, where would we be without you? Will we be buried under some stone on The earth? Or will we simply vanish out Of complete sight? No. Without you, We will cease to exist and the earth Will be destroyed completely. Oh, Life, tell us how we can preserve you. Should we take better care of ourselves in Which you live? Should we take better Care of the planet on which you dwell? Or Should we simply be kind to you and others That carry you or one of your friends? All you say? How can this Be? No one Can do more Than one of Those tasks. Now I understand. If we take care Of ourselves we Can keep you with Us. If we don’t, You will simply Leave, and we Will surely die. If we care for the planet which you live, You will stay longer on the planet and we Shall all live longer. If we don’t our Entire planet will be destroyed from our Carelessness in keeping the planet safe. If we take care of others, Others that may house you, Or maybe even one of your Many friends, the planet Will survive much longer. Before I end this poem, I would like to say a Few words. Follow the Safety rules by keeping Good care of your body, Not polluting our earth And finally, not doing Harm to others. If These simple rules are followed, we will all Live long with Life in Everyone, every animal, and every plant here.
